Carl Schmehl

Carl Schmehl is an American theater/stage director and producer. He is the creative director of Shackman Events, a management and event company in New York City; and artistic director of the nonprofit Nantucket-based theater group On The Isle. Schmehl lives in New York City.
==Theater==
Schmehl attended Emerson College. He started his show business career working with the national touring companies of ''Sugar Babies'' starring Carol Channing, ''Annie'', ''A Chorus Line'' and ''Woman of the Year '' starring Lauren Bacall. Most recently assistant directed Gillian Lynne's production of The Jerry Herman musical "Dear World" in Londons west end.
Schmehl began a twenty-year association with composer Charles Strouse when he directed Strouse's opera ''Nightingale'' in Boston, Massachusetts. Schmehl had a six-month run with the Broadway production of ''Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'' and one year as audition choreographer for the show's national tour. He was also stage manager and casting director for the Off-Broadway musical ''When Pigs Fly''. And part of the producing team for Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular. As well as stage manager for the road production.
His most recent theatre credits include director and choreographer of productions of "Nunsense", "The Actors Nightmare", "Pirates of Penzance", "Up in the Rafters", the off-Broadway play ''Almost Live from the Betty Ford Clinic''. Schmehl has assisted Broadway director and choreographer Gillian Lynne—choreographer of ''Cats'', ''The Phantom of the Opera'' and ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang''—on new productions in New York, San Diego, London and Vienna.
Schmehl's directing and choreography credits include 'The Bad Boy Club' (Key West Theatre Festival), 'Rockwell' (Maine Center for the Performing Arts), 'The Aluminum Garden' (Off-Broadway), 'It's All in the Book' (Boston’s Wang Center), 'Hello Dolly' (Center Stage), 'Tampa II' (Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center), 'Vincentennial' (Boston’s Majestic Theatre), 'Follies' (Bangor Opera House), benefits for The American Cancer Society (Charleston’s Galliard Theatre), United Cerebral Palsy (Tulsa’s Brady Theatre) and Good Samaritan’s Bob Hope Awards to name a few. The musical 'Magic Me' based on the charity with the same name gave Carl the opportunity to work with most of Broadway’s greatest composers and lyricists, include legends such as Kander & Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Jule Styne, Cy Coleman, Sheldon Harnick and Comden & Green to name a few.
